Dungeons & Drogans: Session XXX

Session XXX Summary

The Drogans navigate to the area with the skeletons and sarcophagi.

Double doors and altars to Bahamut, the Platinum dragon, lie to the East.

Zook wonders why the Lawful Good deity would be in Shadowfell Keep.

Coltaine recalls the keep once protected a rift to the Shadowfell, presuming good people once lived here to ward off evil.

The Drogans move through the double doors into a crypt with a single coffin.

Rekoj messes with the coffin lid, prompting the lid to explode in a flurry of dust. A skeletal knight emerges from the cloud, its breastplate emblazed with a dragon's head.

It croaks: "The rift must never be reopened. State your intentions, or prepare to die!"

The group faces its first skill challenge: to convince the knight that they have noble intentions.

The knight says, "I am sworn to defend this keep against interlopers. What brings you here?"

Rekoj and Coltaine succeed on their diplomacy checks, but Zook, Autumn, and Win'tyr fail their skill checks, costing the Drogans the skill challenge.

The knight calls the Drogans villains and battle commences.

By round 7, the Drogans are unscathed, and they've dealt over 125 damage to the knight.

The skeleton says, "I am Sir Keegan; I must not fail again." He chops into Rekoj for 39 damage.

Coltaine deals a devastating blow that leaves the skeleton visibly wounded.

Sir Keegan mutters a prayer to Bahamut. A burst of light wounds all of the Drogans.

Rekoj insists the Drogans are just defending themselves, despite the fact they have Sir Keegan cornered and have been dealing terrible, terrible damage to him, while most of Sir Keegan's attacks have missed.

The knight takes offense to the goliath's words and cuts him down to the ground.

As Win'tyr deals the killing blow to Sir Keegan, the knight speaks his final words: "I have failed once again to vanquish the minions of evil."

After 14 rounds of what was the Drogans' most boring battle ever, during which Sir Keegan only managed to land a blow once every three rounds, the session ends.

Session XXX - Part 1 Summary

With Dave and Stephen away, Doug agrees to control Rekoj and John agrees to control Autumn.

The Drogans rest in order to recuperate from their battle with the slime, then delve back into the heart of Shadowfell Keep.

They head south, down the corridors of the first level, crossing over the corpses of zombies and eventually the remains of skeletons in the wide chamber lined with sarcophagi.

To the east, the passage opens up into a wider chamber. Double doors lie to the east.

Silvery white light from above suffuses the area, and two altars to Bahamut, the Platinum dragon, can be found in here.

Zook, recognizing the depiction of the Lawful Good deity, wonders why he would be in Shadowfell Keep.

Coltaine recalls that the keep was meant to protect a rift from another plane of existence, presuming there were good people living here to ward off evil.

The Drogans open the double doors to reveal a crypt, at the far end of which is a raised dais which holds a single coffin.

Carved on the lid of the coffin is a warrior in plate armor with a sword laid across his chest, the point toward his feet.

The Drogans take turns inspecting the coffin for traps, finding none--until Rekoj thinks the sword is a trap, and pushes it.

As he does so, the heavy coffin lid explodes in a flurry of dust. A humanoid skeleton girded in plate armor emerges from the cloud. Its breastplate is emblazed with a dragon's head, and it holds aloft a longsword.

It croaks: "The rift must never be reopened. State your intentions, or prepare to die!"

The group is tasked with its first skill challenge: to convince the skeletal knight that they have noble intentions.

Rekoj wins initiative and is first to plead his case to the skeleton--employing a Diplomacy check. Nick begs Doug not to let Rekoj do any talking, his 4 charisma a massive liability.

But against all odds, Rekoj succeeds on his diplomacy check.

The knight then turns to Coltaine. "I am sworn to defend this keep against interlopers. What brings you here?"

Coltaine convinces the knight that his goals coincide with his.

The knight turns to Zook.

Zook tries to bluff the knight, saying that he's too tiny to be considered any kind of threat, but the knight growls and says, "Lies."

The skeleton turns to Autumn. She tries to convince him that her intentions are noble, but no one believes her.

Two failures; one more fails the challenge.

The knight turns to Win'tyr.

Win'tyr says he's here to find his cousin.

"A selfish motive," replies the knight. He addresses the group. "Your claims ring false. Defend yourselves!"

Nick posits the idea of having Coltaine leave and bar the door with his halberd so that the others can't escape.

With tears streaming down his face, heartbroken at having to fight this noble skeleton, Rekoj attacks.

"Villains," says the knight, "you shall perish at my blade."

Session XXX - Part 2 Summary

Combat commences.

Autumn fumbles. Twice.

By Round 4, things are looking good for the Drogans. They've taken no damage, and dealt about 60 damage to the knight.

On round 5, the knight says, "I must not fail at my duties," and finally lands a blow on Rekoj, slashing him for 17 damage.

Coltaine inspires Rekoj to heal to maximum HP.

By round 7, all the Drogans are at max HP, and they've dealt over 125 damage to the knight.

Rekoj tries to convince the skeleton that they are good people as his axe crashes through the knight's bones.

"Your actions would say otherwise," replies the Knight, slashing into Rekoj for 14 damage.

By round 8, the Drogans have dealt roughly 150 damage, and Rekoj is at 41/52 HP.

The knight grits what remains of his teeth and says, "I am Sir Keegan; I must not fail again." He chops into Rekoj for 20 damage, then again for 19 damage.

Rekoj is down to 2 HP.

Coltaine inspires Rekoj again, then deals a devastating blow to leave the skeleton visibly wounded.

Rekoj calls upon his second wind to heal up to 29/52 HP.

Sir Keegan points his sword face-down into the ground, holding the hilt with both hands, lowers his head and mutters a prayer to the Platinum Dragon. A burst of light wounds all of the Drogans.

Session XXX - Part 3 Summary

Rekoj insists the Drogans are just defending themselves, despite the fact they have Sir Keegan cornered and have been dealing devastating amounts of damage to him, while most of Sir Keegan's attacks have missed.

The knight takes offense to the goliath's words, slices Rekoj's shield in half and cuts him down to the ground.

Rekoj fails his first death save.

With two swings, Sir Keegan slashes Autumn down to 10 HP.

Win'tyr deals the killing blow to Sir Keegan. The knight speaks his final words: "I have failed once again to vanquish the minions of evil." His bones collapse to the ground in a cloud of dust.

Sir Keegan's sword clatters down the steps of the dais. The sword is inlaid with platinum, with a line of three white diamonds set into the flat of its blade, and its pommel is carved to resemble the head of noble dragon.

As the swords clatters down the steps, it withers and rusts and the diamonds turn to coal.

Rekoj fails his second death save.

Coltaine fails to stabilize Rekoj.

After 14 rounds of what was the Drogans' most boring battle ever, during which Sir Keegan only managed to land a blow once every three rounds, Zook stabilizes Rekoj, and the session ends.
