Dungeons & Drogans: Session XV
Session XV Summary
With Stephen absent, Nick grudgingly agrees to control Autumn. The Drogans venture to the graveyard, where the dead burst forth from the ground and attack--a dozen skeletons armed with swords and bows.
The battle starts with a bang: Rekoj lands a critical hit that obliterates a skeleton. But soon, the sketchy elf from Wrafton's Inn, Ninaran, emerges from a mausoleum and assaults the Drogans, accompanied by two zombie hounds.
By the end of the second round, the Drogans destroy seven of the twelve skeletons.
By the end of round three, the Drogans destroy three more skeletons and bloody Ninaran, but two of their own are also bloodied--Autumn, skewered with arrows, and Zaxzarrd, besieged by the gravehound.
Autumn strikes the killing blow on Ninaran in round 4, but the battle is far from over.
Coltaine falls to a hail of arrows and the bite of a gravehound. Rekoj promptly stabilizes him.
Zaxzarrd smites the gravehound with divine might, slaying it. By the end of round 6, four skeletons and one gravehound remain, while one Drogan is down and one is bloodied.
Zaxzarrd falls in battle to the necrosis caused by the gravehound's bite.
Autumn attracts the gravehound's attention by throwing a dagger at it, and it tears into her leg and takes her out of the fight.
By the end of round 9, three Drogans are down, leaving only Rekoj.
Autumn succumbs to necrosis and dies. Zaxzarrd bleeds to death.
Rekoj takes down the gravehound and the remaining skeletons, but he is too late to save his comrades.
Session XV - Part 1 Summary
As always, the session begins with a recap. John thinks Zaxzarrd deserves a signing bonus for being the new member of the party. Stephen is absent, but no one volunteers to control Autumn.
Session XV - Part 2 Summary
The Drogans venture to the graveyard and establish their marching order. John claims this new Zaxzarrd, being a paladin, has real tanking capabilities now, and is able to charge into battle and not die in two rounds. He takes point.
The players roll to see who is stuck with the task of controlling Autumn, and Nick is the unlucky winner.
The Drogans move in to investigate the graveyard. Suddenly, the dead burst forth from the ground--a dozen skeletons armed with swords and bows.
Round 1 begins. Rekoj lands a critical hit on his first strike, starting the battle with a bang as he pulverizes a skeleton into a cloud of dust.
Session XV - Part 3 Summary
Out of a mausoleum issues a familiar face--Ninaran, the sketchy elf from the inn. Longbow in hand, she fires at the Drogans.
Autumn thrusts her katars through a skeleton's spine, and it collapses into a pile of bones.
A sword bites into Autumn, dropping her to 25/29 HP.
A creature rushes out of a mausoleum--a zombified hound. It charges at Rekoj.
A skeleton slashes Coltaine down to 26 HP.
Session XV - Part 4 Summary
Zaxzarrd draws his falchion and charges Ninaran, slashing into her, then issues a divine challenge on her.
A skeleton moves to flank Coltaine and slashes him down to 22 HP.
Coltaine moves behind a tombstone for cover and fumbles on his attack.
A second gravehound charges out of a mausoleum and attacks Zaxzarrd. Grasping the paladin's leg in its vice-like jaws, it tosses him to the ground at 26/34 HP.
As Autumn dodges one arrow, a second nails her in the shoulder, leaving her with 22/29 HP.
Round 1 ends.
Rekoj easily crushes another skeleton, and Autumn takes down another.
As she kills its undead comrade, a skeleton slashes Autumn in the back, dropping her to 19/29 HP.
An arrow pegs Coltaine down to 19/30 HP.
Session XV - Part 5 Summary
Necrotic damage from the zombie dog bite wounds Zaxzarrd down to 21 HP.
Zaxzarrd's falchion bites into the gravehound, and there is a burst of brilliant light--it seems the paladin's holy nature is especially harmful to this creature.
The paladin uses his dragon breath, a cloud of icy mist, targeting two skeletons and Ninaran. The mist coalesces around the skeletons, and they shatter to pieces; but Ninaran evades.
Coltaine smashes through a decrepit skeleton with the flat of his halberd.
The gravehound bites into Zaxzarrd and drags him to the ground with 12/34 HP.
Round 2 ends. Five skeletons remain, as well as Ninaran and the two gravehounds.
Ninaran lets fly an arrow that pierces Autumn in the stomach for 12 damage, leaving her with 6 HP.
Session XV - Part 6 Summary
Autumn takes down another skeleton, then seeks cover behind a tombstone. But she nonetheless receives an arrow in the thigh, leaving her with 3 HP.
Necrotic damage wounds Zaxzarrd down to 7 HP. The paladin rises and calls upon his second wind, healing up to 16/34 HP. He then issues a divine challenge to the gravehound.
Coltaine advances on Ninaran and slashes heartily into her, bloodying the elf. He then shouts inspiring words to Autumn, and she is healed to 12/29 HP.
The gravehound bites into Zaxzarrd and tears him to the ground again with 11/34 HP.
Round 3 ends. Four skeletons and two gravehounds remain, and Ninaran is bloodied. Two Drogans are also bloodied.
Rekoj moves to flank Ninaran with Coltaine, then uses his Winter's Herald power to conjure an icy aura that immobilizes Ninaran befored he slashes into her with his battleaxe.
Session XV - Part 7 Summary
Ninaran draws her longsword and swings at Coltaine, slashing him down to 8 HP.
Autumn rushes in and stabs her katar through Ninaran's throat. The elf drops dead in a growing pool of blood.
An arrow pegs Coltaine down to 5 HP. As the warlord dodges a second arrow, he is struck by a third and finds himself at 2 HP.
The gravehound chomps into Coltaine's leg, dragging him to the ground. Coltaine loses consciousness.
Necrotic damage wounds Zaxzarrd down to 6 HP. The dragonborn rises once again, and heals himself with his paladin's touch, up to 15/34 HP. His falchion then slashes into the gravehound.
Session XV - Part 8 Summary
Coltaine fails his first death save.
The gravehound bites into Zaxzarrd and drags him to the ground yet again, at 11/34 HP.
Round 4 ends. Four skeletons and the two gravehounds remain. Two Drogans are bloodied and one is down.
Rekoj stabilizes Coltaine.
Autumn stabs into the gravehound, then uses an action point to regain 5 HP thanks to Coltaine's inspiring presence--even though the warlord is unconscious.
A skeleton nails Autumn down to 14 HP with an arrow. A second arrow strikes her in the shin, leaving her with 11 HP..
Session XV - Part 9 Summary
A third arrow strikes autumn down to 8 HP.
Necrotic damage wounds Zaxzarrd down to 6 HP. He rises and lays hands on himself to heal himself to 15/34 HP. The paladin then slashes into the gravehound with his falchion, bloodying it.
An arrow strikes Autumn in the chest, leaving her with 5 HP.
Round 5 ends.
Rekoj advances and attacks the wounded gravehound, but fumbles.
Autumn takes cover behind a gravestone and calls upon her second wind.
Skeletons converge on Autumn with longswords and slash her back down to 4 HP.
The gravehound charges out of the mausoleum and bites Rekoj, catching him off-guard from behind. He bites into the goliath's calf and brings the giant to the ground with 36/45 HP.
Session XV - Part 10 Summary
Zaxzarrd strikes the gravehound with a burst of radiant energy and takes it down. He uses his action point and regains 5 HP from Coltaine's inspiring presence--lying still on the ground.
Round 6 ends. Four skeletons and one gravehound remain. One Drogan is down and one is bloodied.
Rekoj rises, them fumbles again as he tries to attack the gravehound.
Autumn uses her Fey Step to teleport out of the circle of skeletons and takes cover behind a mausoleum.
Zaxzarrd issues a divine challenge on the hound, then is struck by an arrow and left with 17/34 HP.
Round 7 ends.
Session XV - Part 11 Summary
Rekoj fumbles for the third time.
Autumn puts away her katars and takes out a dagger.
Zaxzarrd is down to 14 HP after another arrow strikes him. He dodges a second arrow, but a third takes him down to 11 HP.
The gravehound chomps into Zaxzarrd. The necrotic damage then drops him to -1 HP, and the paladin goes down.
Round 8 ends. Four skeletons and one gravehound remain. Two Drogans are down, and Autumn is at 4 HP.
Rekoj slashes into the gravehound, then falls back.
Autumn takes cover behind a nearby tombstone and throws a dagger at the gravehound, nailing it.
Session XV - Part 12 Summary
An arrow nails Autumn in the throat, dropping her to 1 HP.
Autumn attracted the gravehound's attention with the thrown dagger, and it charges at her. The undead beast tears into her leg and drops her to -4 HP.
Zaxzarrd fails his first death save.
Round 9 ends. Four skeletons and a gravehound remain. Three drogans are down.
Rekoj destroys a skeleton.
Necrotic damage takes autumn down to -9 HP, and she fails her first death save.
The gravehound charges Rekoj and bites through his defenses. Rekoj is knocked prone and takes 9 damage.
Round 10 ends.
Rekoj bloodies the gravehound.
Autumn succumbs to the necrotic damage and dies. Dave hopes she doesn't turn into a zombie.
Session XV - Part 13 Summary
Round 11 ends.
Rekoj slashes into the gravehound.
Zaxzarrd fails his second death save and can only fail one more.
Round 12 ends.
Rekoj chops into the gravehound again, leaving it on the brink of collapse.
Zaxzarrd bleeds to death, having failed his third death save.
Round 13 ends.
Rekoj takes down the gravehound and the three remaining decrepit skeletons, suffering minimal damage.
With the battle won, and only Rekoj left standing, the session ends.
