Dungeons & Drogans: Session XI
Session XI Summary
The Drogans interrogate the goblin that surrendered to them and learn that he works for a goblin named Balgron the Fat. After the goblin divulges further intel about the ruins, the Drogans allow him to flee Shadowfell Keep.
After looting the corpses, the Drogans leave the ruins and make camp to lick their wounds. Come nightfall, they return to the now darkened chambers of Shadowfell Keep.
Rekoj lights a sunrod and ties it to Coltaine's halberd to engage "hands-free" mode, then the Drogans barge into a storage closet ready to assault the deadly food supplies.
Next on the Drogans' path of destruction is the torture room, wherein they find a masked hobgoblin and four goblins.
Zacsarrd and Autumn take down a goblin in the first round of combat. As the battle rages on, a wounded goblin flees, but Coltaine strikes him down before he can call for aid.
Rekoj plunges his axe through the hobgoblin's skull before collapsing under a hail of goblin crossbow bolts.
Zacsarrd heals Rekoj back into consciousness before burning a hole through a goblin's skull with sacred light, leaving only one goblin standing. Rekoj promptly bifurcates the creature, but not before the dragonborn grabs a dead goblin and lights him on fire in the hopes of using it as a flaming projectile.
With no enemy target in sight, Zacsarrd instead launches the flaming goblin at Rekoj. Meanwhile, Coltaine discovers a goblin prisoner in a jail cell.
Session XI - Part 1 Summary
Coltaine interrogates the goblin that surrendered to the Drogans and learns that he works for another goblin named Balgron the Fat. The goblin offers directions to Balgron but advises to Drogans to first kill the hobgoblin torturer.
At Rekoj's request--or demand--the goblin explains that an excavation site lies down the eastern corridor, whereas down the southern corridor lies only the unknown.
The warlord thanks the goblin, and the little creature flees the ruins of Shadowfell Keep.
Session XI - Part 2 Summary
Autumn and Zacsarrd awake, and the Drogans loot the goblin corpses. Rekoj adds a short sword and a spear to his arsenal.
The Drogans then shove the corpses down the pit and replace the bloody carpet above it.
Session XI - Part 3 Summary
The Drogans leave the ruins of Shadowfell Keep and make camp in a nearby copse to lick their wounds. Come evening, they return to the ruins and descend the staircase, this time without a torch--only to find themselves in an unlit chamber.
Session XI - Part 4 Summary
Once again, Rekoj lights a torch and hands it off to Autumn, the one stealthy member of the party. The torchlight reveals that the lanterns that previously lit the chamber burned through their fuel.
The Drogans head down the western corridor and turn north until they are faced with a set of doors: one on the western wall, one on the northern wall, and iron double doors on the eastern wall. Faint blood stains streak the floor between the western and northern door.
Rekoj lights a sunrod, and Autumn leaves the torch in a lantern sconce on the wall. Zacsarrd ties the sunrod to Coltaine's halberd to engage "hands-free" mode.
Session XI - Part 5 Summary
The Drogans position themselves to charge through the western door. Rekoj swings the door open, revealing a whole series of... crates and barrels. The room is devoid of life.
Within the crates, the Drogans find rat jerky. Zacsarrd closes the door, and he and Rekoj feast on the salted rodent.
The first time the Drogans entered the ruins, two party members dropped down a pit, and rats gnawed at their flesh. This time, they've entered a room, and two party members are eating dead rats. How poetic.
Session XI - Part 6 Summary
After searching in vain for secret doors, they Drogans leave the storage room and head for the northern door. Zacsarrd hears the excited babble of goblin voices beyond the door.
Session XI - Part 7 Summary
Zacsarrd kicks the door open, revealing a large, bloodstained chamber illuminated by a fire pit--the torture room.
The Drogans move in.
Session XI - Part 8 Summary
Within the chamber lie numerous torture devices: an iron maiden, a torture table, torture racks, a fire pit with hot pokers. A corridor runs west, within which are embedded jail cells. Another cell is nestled in the southeast corner of the chamber.
Four goblins and a hobgoblin stand off-guard as the Drogans rush them. Three of the goblins wield crossbows, while the fourth carries a spear. The hobgoblin wears a leather mask and ornate, crimson hide armor.
Zacsarrd charges in, scythe whirling, and slices into a crossbow-wielding goblin.
Round 1 begins.
Autumn moves to flank the goblin with Zacsarrd. She impales both her katars through the goblin's back, through his lungs and out his chest. The creature collapses.
The spear-wielding goblin draws his weapon and advances on Coltaine.
Session XI - Part 9 Summary
Rekoj chops at a goblin with his axe. The wounded goblin steps away from the goliath, draws his crossbow, and with a casually aimed bolt, nails Rekoj for 8 damage.
Another goblin draws his crossbow and retreats into the cell to the southeast.
Zacsarrd barrel rolls over the torture table and dodges a spearhead, but dizzy from rolling, misses as he swings his scythe at the goblin.
The hobgoblin grabs a hot poker from the fire pit and engages Rekoj.
Round 2 starts.
Autumn flanks the hobgoblin and impales him, wounding him heavily.
The spear-wielding goblin shifts away from Zacsarrd, clearly not wanting to have anything to do with the twirling madman.
Session XI - Part 10 Summary
Rekoj slashes into the hobgoblin and bloodies him, while Coltaine's halberd bites into the spear-wielding goblin.
The goblin sharpshooter nails Rekoj once again, dropping him to 31/45 HP.
Round 3 begins.
The spear-wielder impales Coltaine down to 20/30 HP, and the warlord bloodies the goblin in retaliation.
Session XI - Part 11 Summary
The sharpshooter pegs Rekoj down to 21/45 HP, Zacsarrd heals the goliath back up to 36/45 HP.
Round 4 starts. One enemy is down, two are bloodied, and none of the Drogans are bloodied or even moderately wounded.

XI - Part 12 Summary
Coltaine slashes viciously into the spear-wielding goblin, leaving him on the brink of collapse.
The sharpshooter takes cover under the table and nails Rekoj in the knee for 10 damage, dropping him to 29/45 HP.
After several missed shots, the goblin in the cell finally hits Rekoj for a bolt, taking him down to 20/45 HP.
Zacsarrd tries to flip the torture table that the goblin is taking cover under, but pulls a hernia.
The hobgoblin strikes Rekoj with the hot poker, setting him on fire, and burning him down to 10/45 HP.
Round 5 begins. One goblin is down, one is about to go down, two are uninjured, and the hobgoblin is bloodied.
Session XI - Part 13 Summary
Autumn stabs the hobgoblin with both katars through his kneecaps. He lets out a muffled cry of agony from behind his mask.
The spear-wielding goblin runs out of the room through the southern entrance.
Rekoj puts out the flames that burned at his flesh, then chopped his axe through the hobgoblin's head. As the body drops to the floor, the goliath marches toward the goblin in the cage.
Coltaine speaks words of inspiration to himself and heals up to 29/30 HP. The warlord chases after the retreating goblin and finds him standing outside the double iron doors. With a swift swing of his halberd, he knocks the goblin out before he can call for help.
The sharpshooter nails Rekoj once more, dropping him to 5/45 HP.
The goblin in the cell drops his crossbow, draws his sword, and slashes Rekoj down to 0 hp. The goliath collapses.
Zacsarrd rushes in and stabilizes Rekoj.
Round 6 begins. Three enemies are down. Two goblins remain. Rekoj is down but stable, and everyone else is relatively uninjured.
Session
XI - Part 14 Summary
Autumn moves into the cell, and the goblin slashes her down to 17/24 HP. The eladrin makes a retaliatory stab at the goblin.
Coltaine reenters the chamber and closes the door behind him, then flips the torture table over to foil the goblin's cover. In response, the goblin scampers away under another table.
Session XI - Part 15 Summary
Zacsarrd heals Rekoj back to 16/45 HP, and the goliath awakes.
Round 7 begins.
Autumn stabs at the goblin, but he parries her katars with his sword. She teleports out of the cell with her Fey Step.
Rekoj calls upon his second wind, then climbs to his feet at 27/45 HP.
Coltaine chases after the sharpshooter and sweeps his halberd under the table, bloodying the goblin. The goblin pegs Coltaine in the knee for 13 damage, dropping him to 16 HP.
Zacsarrd calls upon sacred light from above and sears a hole through the table--and through the sharpshooter's skull. The goblin collapses with a smoking crater in his head.
Round 8 starts. One goblin remains.
Autumn stabs her katar through the bars and wounds the goblin.
Session XI - Part 16 Summary
Rekoj draws his scimitar as Zacsarrd picks up a goblin corpse and sets it on fire in the pit, intending to throw the flaming corpse at the remaining goblin.
Round 9 starts.
Autumn stabs the goblin once again, leaving him on the brink of collapse.
Rekoj swings his scimitar in a horizontal arc that slices clean through the goblin's waist, through his spine. Both halves collapse to the floor, and Zacsarrd is left wondering what to do with the flaming corpse.
The dragonborn, upset at having his plan spoiled, hurls the flaming goblin at Rekoj, but not before he catches fire from handling the burning corpse.
Session XI - Part 17 Summary
Rekoj catches fire as he is struck by the flaming goblin.
Round 10 starts. All enemies are down, but we're still tracking combat rounds thanks to Zacsarrd.
Rekoj burns down to 27/45 HP before putting out the flames.
Coltaine heads down the western corridor to inspect the cells and spots a goblin in one of them.
Zacsarrd burns down to 20/27 HP.
Round 11 begins.
Coltaine uses an encounter power to grant Zacsarrd a saving throw versus the fire. Thanks to John, the party is making excellent use of its precious combat resources. Despite the dragonborn's best efforts, he does not burn himself to death.
The session ends.
