Dungeons & Drogans: Session I
Session I Summary
Three adventurers meet on the road to
Winterhaven, find common purpose in their goals, and form the Order of
the Drogans: Rekoj, the sociopathic killing machine; Jacques, the
senile old man; and Coltaine, their grudging leader.
En route,
they are ambushed by eight small reptilian humanoids. By the battle's
end, six of the enemy were slain by Rekoj, two were knocked out by
Coltaine, and Thomas managed to consistently roll less than 10 on his
d20, making Jacques appear to be the least effective wizard in history.
Session I - Part 1 Summary
We are introduced to the players and their characters, and join them in a totally not stereotypical start to a campaign, where they meet at an inn and discover they are all headed to the town of Winterhaven for various reasons -- some better explained than others.
Session I - Part 2 Summary
After boasting
about who has the bigger arsenal, the adventurers spend the night at
the inn -- an event that will likely put the inn out of business. Come
morning, they are ready to head out -- that is, after Rekoj agrees to
not eat Jacques' horse, Redenbacher, and Coltaine realizes that he may
have poorly chosen his traveling companions.
Session I - Part 3 Summary
As the party heads out along the disused King's Road to Winterhaven, the characters decide to call their group the Order of the Drogans, because Rekoj thinks it sounds cool and Jacques' idea is far worse. It's established that Coltaine is the party leader -- since he appears to be the only one even remotely capable of doing a half-decent job.
Session I - Part 4 Summary
Walking along King's Road, the Order of the Drogans is suddenly ambushed by small reptilian humanoids. After grudgingly accepting the +2 bonus to initiative Coltaine bestows upon allies, Jacques realizes the disadvantages to bringing a riding horse into a combat situation.
Session I - Part 5 Summary
The party engages the small reptilian humanoids -- who are totally not known to be kobolds. Rekoj deals first blood, Jacques ties off his horse to a nearby tree, and Coltaine is the first to take down a foe, knocking it unconscious.
Session I - Part 6 Summary
More of the kobolds -- I mean, small reptilian humanoids -- jump out from behind boulders and join their comrades in attacking the Order of the Drogans. Rekoj is set on fire by a flaming projectile, but retaliates with a devastating attack that takes down three of the eight enemies in a manner of seconds.
Session I - Part 7 Summary
The battle with the kobolds continues -- yeah, let's just call them kobolds; everyone else is doing it anyway. Jacques proves that his combat prowess is no better than his ability to make sensible conversation, as he misses with a magic missile attack. Coltaine and Rekoj continue to handle the situation, leaving only three kobolds standing.
Session I - Part 8 Summary
The battle rages on, and only
two kobolds are left standing. Jacques continues to prove that he is
incapable of hitting the enemy.
Session I - Part 9 Summary
Jacques' bad luck starts to rub off on Rekoj, but Coltaine's buffing abilities manage to counteract that bad luck.
Session I - Part 10 Summary
And then there was one kobold left standing. That's right; thanks to bad luck, this battle still isn't over.
Session I - Part 11 Summary
Jacques tries to be useful by catching Rekoj and the remaining kobold in an area of effect attack -- evidently thinking that being set on fire with magic would motivate Rekoj to kill faster -- but manages to prove he has the worst. luck. EVER. Rekoj informs the kobold that he "will die now," but the kobold does not comply, and instead dies later. The battle is over, as is the session.
