Serendipity

A website created by a fan of random generators, Serendipity presents a varied array of online generators with a predominant fantasy theme.

Although these generators may be used to spark ideas for writing, art, and any number of other creative media, I'll evaluate them as a resource for D&D gamers.
People

Serendipity offers a variety of name generators and quick character profile/description generators that should meet most of your needs, but it is the Ethnicity Generator that really shines. Incorporating human ethnicities (or subraces) is a great way of adding flavor to your gameworld, and this generator can create quick physical descriptions, such as:

These people are generally 4'6" to 5'6" tall and tend to be gangly. They have thick, straight hair that varies from light to medium brown, eyes that are brown or hazel, and medium reddish brown skin. They typically have wide faces, with flattish noses and eyes that are narrow and wide-set.

Places
Generators in this category create believable names for countries, continents, cities, villages, general fantasy locations, and interesting fantasy sites. The two gemstones, however, are the City Generator and the Stronghold Creator, which are perfect for creating quick descriptions of cities and castles.

City Generator sample:

This huge, extremely crowded city at the edge of a desert is best known as a haven for the arts. The majority of its inhabitants are involved in horse trading, and it is considered noteworthy for its massive carved gates.

Stronghold Creator sample:

This medium-sized castle, built of blue-gray stone and set beneath a cliff, belongs to a demented prince. It contains a large imposing gateway and appears to be thriving. It is approached by a wide paved road. Nearby is a quiet dwarven settlement in which there is a blacksmith. The holding is rich in gold.
Things
Of particular note in this category are the Treasure Generator, Outfit Generator, Fantasy Gown Generator, and Clothing Style Generator. That last generator is another good way to add flavor to your gameworld by creating descriptions of the clothing styles worn in different cities or nations. Here's a sample:

These people wear comfortable clothing in subtle earth tones. The usual materials are linen or leather, with slit skirts and low necklines. Some wear long coats or close-fitting caps.
Closing Remarks
Serendipity's generators appeal mostly to Dungeon Masters, but players can find use in them as well. What makes Serendipity stand apart from other online generator sites is its small trove of unique, high-quality generators that suit specialized purposes, perfect for making a gameworld come to life.
