SPOILERS BEYOND THIS POINT

It's been two months since I'd played any D&D -- which is a long hiatus after playing twice a week for a couple years -- so I was a little rusty going into tonight's session. I had a case of The Giggles and could barely get through two sentences without bursting into a fit of laughter. On the plus side, we were all excited to get back into things, so energy was high, and remained high throughout the session -- we didn't even experience our midnight lull, during which John usually starts to doze off.

I wasn't satisfied with the way I started this adventure -- too much lead-in. If I had a do-over, I'd have cut out a lot of what happened before arriving at Thunderspire Mountain in order to dive into the action quicker. That said, we did have quite a few good laughs before then, so while it may not have been the best opening to an adventure, it was a fun session -- and in the end, that's what D&D is about: having fun.

The battle was surprisingly short and sweet -- a great morale booster to start off a new adventure. Thunderspire's encounters aren't as oppressively difficult as Keep's, so I think my players will be pleasantly surprised by the amount of ass they will be kicking. While I wasn't happy with the way I started this session, I was very satisfied with how it ended -- a great battle topped off with a funny finale.
