Dungeons & Drogan Session XXXVIII has been posted. Keep on the Shadowfell is over -- after a few weeks off, we'll start up a new adventure.

DM commentary on the session after the break.

It was nice to finally have closure on the Ninaran/Win'tyr/Coltaine scenario. Doug and Nick are brothers, so I think they had some time to plan out how things would go down. I liked the result -- some good roleplaying went down. Sure, it was anticlimactic in that there was no real conflict, but it was a heartwarming moment -- well, as heartwarming as you can get with that amount of balls-kicking.

Zacsarrd was a great character. My bout of laughter when he died was due to surprise. I don't like killing characters, and will sometimes fudge the numbers to avoid an outright character death, but I had already announced the numbers in this case -- it was too late to "cheat."

The adventure started in November of 2009, but we started planning it back in August of 2009 -- almost two years ago. Dave, Nick, and Thomas were the original three players, and John was brought along shortly thereafter as a fourth. Then Stephen came in to replace Thomas.

Thomas was a tactical error, a bad judgment call. He was supposed to be the breakout character that listeners would find endearing, but turned out to be exactly like Jar Jar Binks or Neelix.

For an introduction to 4e, Keep on the Shadowfell failed. It was too difficult for players and it relied on too much on a DM to have developed skills that a new DM would not necessarily possess.
